Arizona NP honored for her work on dementia
May 4, 2012

Maribeth Gallagher, a psychiatric nurse practitioner at the Hospice of the Valley in Arizona, was honored by the International Journal of Palliative Nursing for her work with the hospice's dementia program. Gallagher will also receive this year's program manager of the year award from the Visiting Nurse Associations of America. She used favorite songs to help patients, and she co-founded a program to help families of patients not yet eligible for hospice services. Arizona Republic (Phoenix), The (5/2)

 

 

Akaka Amendment Defeated
May 1, 2012

Amendment to Postal Workers Act that would have permitted NPs to do workers comp evals for federal postal workers failed by a vote of 46-53. Both Arizona senators Kyl and McCain voted against the amendment. The bill must go back to the House for further action so there is still a chance that the amendment can be re-introduced and passed
